If the governor was a Democrat, I don't think you'd see O'Malley passing the buck here. What can Ehrlich do? He can't agree to pay off the school system's debt, and the teacher's have demonstrated an unwillingness to compromise.

STRAIGHT FROM THE FRONTLINES

I spoke to Brian at the bookstore last night. He said he voted for the first measure, but against he second. He said that after the first vote some teachers got layoff notices in the mail, indicating to him that layoffs were imminent. You'd be wise to take this with a grain of salt, however. He also said that his principal told him he'd be teaching Language Arts next week.
