Hey, the primaries are today! I was the 21st person to vote at my polling place at about 9AM. I voted for Edwards, as did Liz after some agonizing.

I'm still feeling a little bad about my vote. I'm trying to compile some exit polling on how former Deaniacs voted today. All I have at this point is:
1 - Edwards
1 - Kerry
I haven't gotten very far.

Name: TonyI'm planning to metaphorically pull my lever for Edwards, although I've been thinking about casting a protest vote for Joe Lieberman.

Well Dean won Vermont after dropping out so you should have.

Name: SeanWell it looks like it's over and the VP speculation can begin I'm rooting for either Bob Graham because he can help carry Florida or Wedge Antilles because, although he's a fictional character, he gets the job done without causing much of a fuss.

Wedge Antilles for Vice-President: He'll lock America's S-foils in attack position!
Now that I've got that out of my system... If I were a betting man (and I am), I'd say Evan Bayh. He was a governor, he'll put Indiana's 11 electoral votes into competition, and he's a fairly young, good-looking guy. The only drawback is that he would be another senator on the ticket.
Electorally, if you hold all other states constant, Indiana puts the Democrats over the top, 271-267.

This year there is one other key Shrum client to watch: Florida Senator Bill Nelson. Nelson is a fiscal conservative, a member of the Armed Services Committee, and a former Space Shuttle crew member. He's also popular back home in Florida. Shrum was Nelson's media consultant in both his successful 1998 race for Florida insurance commissioner and his 2000 Senate race. Conspiracy theorists will note that Senator Nelson was recently floated as a potential Kerry veep in a column by Bob Novak, a Shrum pal for 30 years.

Name: DraperI was watching CNN today and the politial wanks mentioned Evan Bayh as well. You know what that means, if he is chosen, then Andy Miller has hit the big time. He is buddy buddy with Bayh.

Friday, 5 March 2004 - 1:55 PM EST
Name: TonyFor the curious, I voted for Lieberman, primarily because I thought he would make the best president. My mother voted for Kerry, primarily because he vaguely reminded her of a Kennedy. (Is there a chance I was adopted?)
I don't see where adding another Senator, be it Bayh or anybody else, could help Kerry much. If Kerry is serious about winning I think he needs to look to southern and western governors. Kerry doesn't need to fill a foreign policy gap, like Bush did in 2000, nor does he need an attack dog or someone to shore up his base. His problem is that he's a Beltway insider and looks it. He needs an outsider.
Also, don't be surprised to see N.H. Governor Jean Shaheen in the mix. Remember, it was her support that was part of the beginning of the turnaround for the Kerry campaign. I don't see how this could help Kerry electorally, but I don't think this precludes her selection, particularly if Kerry and Co. go through with their flirtations to write off the South.
